The design of a home for a family of four in Stuttgart-Botnang has resulted in a residence that has undergone a fundamental transformation during the design process. Originally conceived as a solid-construction house, the project evolved into a solid-wood house that makes a forward-looking contribution to sustainable building through its significantly lower carbon footprint. This structural reinterpretation is based on the use of hollow-core slabs, which combine efficient material utilization with high load-bearing capacity while also enabling spacious, flexibly usable interior spaces. This system is complemented by detachable screw connections that ensure dry assembly and also create the conditions for later disassembly. In this way, the building becomes a transformable structure whose components can be sorted by type, reused, and transferred to new contexts. The architectural approach envisions the single-family home beyond its immediate life cycle. The result is a living space that not only meets the needs of its residents but also functions as a material repository, open to future transformations and embedded in a responsible approach to resource management.
